"Movement" is a story, both a reflection of motion in the city and motion within. Inspired by moving to Brooklyn from a lifetime of living in the suburbs in Texas, Xena processes her experience through this 4 track EP with 2 distinct sections. The first half is an internal display of her move, feeling frozen in a chaotic landscape, and in turn mentally shutting the world around her out, floating in a disturbed headspace. This stillness ends with “Falling”, an encapsulation of exploring an over-stimulating world.
The second half is an acclimation to and comfort in the external motion in the city. The repetition of trains, of walking, of the familiar city soundscape around becomes part of a meditative daily act. Xena uses content from a single field recording of her walking from her Crown Heights apartment to the A train, and then off the train to the Hudson River in Manhattan. Not only does she use the unedited audio throughout the second half of the EP, but she draws from these recordings (stretching and pitch shifting train sounds, replicating bubbling water in wavetable synths) to fully meld the noises of the city into a constantly transforming soundscape.

Xena currently lives in Brooklyn, occupying a scene of underground electronic experimentalists creating new and interesting sound worlds. Her Debut EP "Body" was released in January 2022. Many tracks on the unique EP were crafted from guitar fragments, electronic blips, ethereal and indistinguishable vocals, and sharp percussive samples. Additionally, "Body" contained more structured and lyrical songs, showing off the diverse range of styles Xena produces. On "Body", HighClouds wrote “Besides its undeniable beauty, it reveals rewarding secrets after each new listen.”
